Beringya Downs Alpaca Stud is located in the rolling green hills of Macclesfield, Victoria, only an hour's drive from Melbourne's exciting city centre. It has proved an ideal location for us not only to raise our two delightful daughters, but also a thriving herd of alpacas. Macclesfield is developing into a flourishing alpaca breeding community, with a number of studs in the area including "Sandjo Alpacas", and "Tangilly Alpacas".

We first fell in love with alpacas in the late 80's, and in 1993 Beringya Downs Alpaca Stud was finally established with our first pregnant female and her daughter. We have now been happily breeding them for over four years.

Although we are only small breeders, we have concentrated on improving the quality of our herd through careful selected breeding of our females to the top sires within Australia, including "Purrumbete Ledgers Dream", " Purrumbete El Dorado" & " Purrumbete Don Quixote". This breeding strategy has provided us with considerable success in breeding quality dark solid coloured animals, which can be seen through the resulting progeny such as Beringya Downs Romeo (solid black) and Beringya Downs Rueben (solid dark brown).

Beringya Downs Romeo has been shown with considerable success over the last two years in both Victoria and NSW, and has since moved to Sandjo Alpaca Stud as a fully certified and working stud male.

Beringya Downs Rueben, Romeo's half brother, is an up & coming young male, who has also performed consistently at shows this year, and should be available for stud services in 1998.

Overall, alpacas have given us a fantastic lifestyle and we feel privileged to be involved in this developing and rewarding industry. If you require any further information or are just interested in having a chat about alpacas please feel free to drop us an email or just give us a call.

The kettle is always on the boil!
